To get started creating custom tabs on your Facebook Pages using TradableBits follow these steps:

  1. You need to authorize the TradableBits app with your Facebook account. Do this by clicking on the Start Now button on the TradableBits homepage or by clicking on the Connect button in the top right corner of our website. Click on Connect
  2. You will see a window with details about the TradableBits Facebook Application. Click Go to App. Click on Go to App
  3. The next window asks you to allow us permission to manage your Facebook Pages. We need this in order to publish tabs you want and customizations you make to your Facebook Pages. Click on the Allow button. Click on Allow
  4. Once you allow us permissions you will be taken to your new Manage Pages screen.

Creating Facebook Pages

About Facebook Pages

Pages allow organizations, businesses, celebrities, bands and others to maintain a professional presence on Facebook. Pages can be enhanced with TradableBits applications to help communicate and engage with your fans, and capture new fans virally through Welcome Apps, Promotions, Exclusive Deals, News Feeds and more.

Pages are not separate Facebook accounts and do not have separate login information from your profile (timeline). They are merely different entities on Facebook, similar to how Groups and Events function on Facebook.

Creating a Page

To get started using TradableBits you'll need to set up a Page within your profile (timeline). You can add other administrators to help you manage this Page. If someone else has created an existing Page, and you want to add TradableBits apps to it, you'll need to contact them to have your Facebook profile added as an admin. You may only create Facebook Pages to represent real organizations of which you are an authorized representative.

For a more detailed step by step guide go to: Facebook - Creating Pages

People who choose to connect to your Page cannot see that you are the Page admin and have no access to your personal account.

Adding Tabs

Once you have pages configured for your Facebook profile follow these steps to add a tab to your page:

  1. Begin by making sure you are logged in and then go to your Manage Pages screen by clicking on the tab in the header navigation bar. Click on Manage Pages
  2. Now you'll see a list of the pages you manage on Facebook. Manage Pages
  3. If you manage eight or more pages you will see filters in the upper right corner to help you find the Page you are looking for.
  4. Click on the blue Manage button for the Page you want to add a tab to. This will take you to the Page editor.
  5. On the left side of your page click the blue + Add App button. Click it. Add a Tab
  6. In this window you can choose a type of tab to add. Explore the menu on the left side for details about each type of tab. Once you've selected a type click on the Next button. Tab Type
  7. On the next screen you choose a name and icon for your tab. By default we populate the name and icon with a default. You can change these if you want. Tab Icon
  8. To change the tab name, simply enter the name you want in the text field. Keep in mind that the tab name will have limited room on Facebook. Limit the number of characters to 32. Anything beyond that may be truncated by ellipses.
  9. Choose an icon you want to display on the tab in Facebook. You can select from our group of basic icons. Or, if you have a premium account, you can choose to select from our premium icons. Once you've made your selection click on the Finish button. If you'd like to have a custom icon created for you please contact us. Once you've made your selection click on the Finish button.

Your tab is now installed and you can start customizing it for your page. Adding a tab in TradableBits does NOT create the tab on your Facebook page until you choose to Publish it. This lets you explore the options and experiment with the configuration settings. Preview it and then Publish it to your Facebook Page. To learn more go to Customizing Your Page

Please note: Once you have selected an icon you may not use that same icon again. You can choose to add more than one of the same tab type to your page, but each tab on the same page must have a different icon. The number of tabs you may add to each page is determined by your plan type. Please refer to our Plans & Pricing page for details.

Customizing Your Page

Once you added one or more tabs to your your page it's time to customize the features and content. Apps are very easy to configure and manage. In fact, we allow you to create and modify tabs before you publish them to your page so you can get them setup the way you like before anyone sees them.

Editing Your App

Start by choosing the page you want to Manage. You can click on the Manage button which will take to the Page Summary for that page and you can then click on one of your TradableBits tabs to edit it. A quicker way once you have tabs installed is on the manage pages page you'll see icons for the tabs you have installed on each page. You can click directly on these to jump right to that tab to edit it. Tab Edit Screen

Now that you are on the tab edit page let's take a look at the basic features of the page:

  • Right Sidebar: This displays your Facebook Page profile picture at the top. Below this are your tabs you've installed with a tab for Page Summary above them. Below that are buttons for adding new tabs and upgrading the page to premium if it's a basic page. Finally we have some tips that provide useful info about managing this page or tab.
  • Page Header: The name of the page is listed at the top. If you click on this it will launch the live Facebook Page in a new window for you. The Tab icon and name are below that. Then shown are the navigation tabs for the editor. The edit tab presents you the controls to customize the tabs features. Preview shows you what your tab will look like when you publish it to the page. Please note that if you publish your tab to Facebook any changes you make here will be applied to your tab once you click the Save button. Finally stats contains details about activity that this tab has received in the last week and last month
  • Facebook Publisher: The blue panel on the right hand side is where you control publishing your tab to your page:

  • Previews: Some tabs, not all, will show a preview on the right underneath the Facebook Publisher panel to help explain what the various elements you are editing do.
  • Edit Fields: The main section in the middle of the page is where you configure your tab. We'll be adding more and more details about what these features can do specific to each tab type.

Facebook Publisher

We made it even easier to promote the additional TradableBit apps you have published on your Page. Here's how to use our Facebook Publisher:

Facebook Publisher
App Type
Displays the base function of the app. This is important because you can now easily change the name and image of the app.
Inactive/Active
Shows whether the app is currently published to Facebook.
Publish
Controls when the app is visible on your Facebook Page. When first created your tab will be unpublished. Once you are ready, click on the blue button to Publish this tab to your Facebook Page. Once a tab is published the button will show as unpublish Tab from Facebook. This will hide the tab so that nobody sees it but it will still be active and you can edit and change it.
Post
Offers you a simple way to publish a status update on your Facebook Page tied to the app.
View
Provides quick link to open current Facebook page in a new window.
Change
Provides you the ability to change the name and app image (we provide you with a bunch of cool images to choose from).
Delete
Removes the app from your page. A better way might be to just unpublish it so users can't see it.
